The Moral High Ground (or The Mangling of Logic pt. 2)
Here's a story that should warm your tootsies tonight; according to Thomas Ricks of the Washington Post, Israel is purposefully allowing Hizbullah to stay armed and attack certain areas of Israel in order to have justification for invading Lebanon and killing innocent civilians. Gaining the moral high ground, as it were.
Let me categorically state how I feel about Israel. The closest comparison I can come up with is South Africa under apartheid. A Palestinian living in Israel is treated about the same as a black person was under apartheid. The Israeli collective identity seems to be one of we are god's chosen people, the bible tells us that we are superior to everyone else. Therefore we may do as we please. We were also the victims of a holocaust, and we may use this fact to our advantage. Therefore if you have any objections to our behavior, they can be dismissed as anti-semitism.
I am not an anti-semite. I am an humanitarian. I believe ALL of the human beings on earth have a right to live the way they choose to live, unless they begin infringing on someone else's right to do so. I believe there is a conspiracy, in the sense that there is both a tacit and express agreement between Israel and the West in which the West looks the other way. I believe that Israel is a criminal, murderous nation (see Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn, they have covered it all) and needs to be held accountable for it's actions.
